The ongoing Indie Press Series honors the work of small independent publishers. Fly By Night is a subsidiary of arts and cultural organization A Gathering of the Tribes. Packer's collection of poems holds New York City's grit and excess up to the light, then makes it shine. Barbara Purcell's debut book of poetry collects her online and spoken word pieces. Trinidad-born poet Cheryl Boyce-Taylor brings her activist, spoken-word sensibility to bear in her collection. Woods' short story collection, primarily set in rural America, combines realism with meta-fiction.

McNally Jackson Books, a big, beautiful independent bookstore in New York's Nolita, where Soho, Noho, the Lower East Side, Chinatown, and Little Italy meet (it's also a stone's throw from Tribeca, the East Village, West Village, and Wall Street.... Not to mention a quick subway ride from Brooklyn, a bike ride from Harlem, and a PATH fare from the great state of New Jersey). In other words, we're right in the middle of the criss-crossing currents of New York's eclectic cultural life and we're determined to capture that invigorating swirl in our mix of books, media, and events. www.mcnallyjackson.com
Black Ice
Poems by Barbara Purcell
"There are no fake notes here. This is a fresh and gritty first book announcing a gutsy presence in our midst. I salute her." —Colette Inez
Raw Air
Poems by Cheryl Boyce Taylor
"Boyce Taylor is an acrobat of poetry — leaping in dazzling, daring moves from poignant family poems to highly charged sensual poems. With amazing skill she balances poems resonant with clarity, images fresh and often startling."
Love Does Not Make Me Gentle or Kind
Short Fiction by Chavisa Woods
"Woods writes about love with a calloused hand, filling the spaces left by others. Her words etch a dotted line across your heart, instructing it precisely in where to break."
-Sabrina Chapadjiev (Cliterature, LiveThrough This: creativity and self-destruction)
Playland
Poems by Eve Packer
"Eve Packer is one of those people who comes off on-stage like an in-your-face diva with plenty of 'tude." -
-Carol Wierzbicki
